Background & Context
The 2024 Paris Olympic Village, located on a 46 ha riverside site in Seine-Saint-Denis, was designed by Dominique Perrault to house approximately 14,500 Olympic and 9,000 Paralympic athletes in nearly 3,000 apartments across 82 buildings. The project demanded a strong focus on sustainability from the very beginning, and Neo-Eco was hired by the Olympic Works Delivery Company SOLIDEO to ensure that all the pre-construction demolitions were carried out in the most sustainable way possible.
What We Did
We helped define SOLIDEO's environmental objectives regarding the demolitions.
We provided project management assistance in the selective deconstruction of buildings, which allowed us to conserve many of the existing buildings' elements like windows, radiators, flooring, and more, for re-use before the demolitions took place.
We provided guidance on how to manage all other waste that came from the demolitions.
We helped SOLIDEO to draft circular economy clauses in their tenders and contracts, thereby guaranteeing that sustainability would be incorporated by all contractors
Outcome
We achieved a 95% material recovery rate from the 40k tons of materials resulting from 28 building demolitions, resulting in very little waste ending up in landfills.
