The first project (Sedimel 1), carried out between 2018 and 2020 and led by the European Metropolis of Lille (MEL), resulted in the creation of precast concrete for reservoir pavements (Hydrocyls) and a self-compacting grout whose formulations allowed for the replacement of part of the sand with local sediments.
✔️ Ambitious and proactive in its innovative approach to the circular economy and the development of eco-products, the MEL decided to launch a second study to create two new formulations incorporating sediments in embankments and subgrades.
💡The challenge of this study? The development of formulations with sediments specifically selected for their high organic matter content, meeting the performance requirements of current standards. The objective of the project was to explore the impact of organic matter content on the #recovery methods considered.
Today, the completed prototypes are undergoing environmental monitoring, an important step to ensure the environmental safety of the #ecomaterials created. Once this has been demonstrated, the formulations developed and validated will need to be tested under real-life conditions on a laboratory scale on a pilot project that will involve the creation of a greenway in the MEL region. ♻️
To successfully complete the project, several stakeholders are collaborating to provide all the necessary resources, skills, and knowledge: IMT Nord Europe, EQIOM, A CRH Company, COLAS, Neo-Eco, MEL, the Hauts-de-France Region, and the European Commission via #ERDF funding.
